Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative (CHNRI) is an international foundation with the vision to improve child health and nutrition of all children in low and middle income countries through research that informs health policy and practice. more >>
CHNRI’s mandate is to advocate research programs directed at addressing conditions responsible for the most important diseases suffered by children, especially in developing countries, where the major burden of disease remains. The CHNRI International Essay Competition 2009, was an endeavor in keeping with this spirit of CHNRI. The organizers of the essay competition were looking for the best examples of research translation into policy that improved child health and/or nutrition status at national, regional, or global level within the past 20 years. Many applications from young researchers in developing countries were received in response, which focused on the topic of child health. Reviewers of international repute reviewed these essays and recommended two joint winners. The winning essays are:
1.Introducing Sprinkles in Kyrgyzstan: From people’s mandate to national policy
Authors: Tobias Schueth (Kyrgyz-Swiss-Swedish Health Project/SDC/Sida), Elizabeth Lundeen (Kyrgyz-Swiss-Swedish Health Project/SDC/Sida) and Cholpon Imanalieva (UNICEF, Kyrgyzstan office)
2. Infant vitamin A supplementation - From research to policy
