The OSLO CHILD HEALTH RESEARCH CENTER (OCHRC), is an international Swiss Foundation whose overall goal is to improve child health and nutrition through appropriately targeted research. OCHRC works with low-middle-income country institutions and scientists to stimulate and support research into priority child health and nutrition problems, with a focus on research to inform policies for scaling up effective interventions. A Board with expertise in international public health governs OCHRC while the management of the Initiative is carried out by a Secretariat located at “ICDDR,B: Centre for Health and Population Research in Bangladesh”.
OCHRC would like to appoint an independent consultant as a Fund Development Manager who will be responsible for devising and implementing OCHRC’s development programme and through that activity, for raising new income in support of OCHRC’s mission, aims and objectives. The appointment is initially for a 2-year period and may require full time involvement for the first few months. The role entails active fundraising in addition to strategic input into development planning. The consultant will work closely with the OCHRC Secretariat to develop and implement a five year strategy for fundraising and identifying funding priorities and undertake major gift and grant fundrasing with government development assistances agencies, trust/foundations, corporate and private donors and other stakeholders. The consultant will be required to operate from anywhere in Western Europe or the USA or Canada in an independent manner in compliance with local regulations in his/her country of residence.
It is essential that the consultant will have:
- A demonstrably successful track record of organisational and individual major gift fundraising
- A clear understanding of the strategic role of different fundraising activities in a balanced development programme
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability both to design workplans independently and to work in a hands-on manner

- Ability to think strategically, creatively and analytically
- A commitment to excellence and to the highest ethical standards of professional conduct.
- Experience of prospect management, prospect tracking and stewardship programmes.
- It is desirable to have experience of fundraising in a research or public health environment and of fundraising involving government and donor agencies.
