Request for Proposal (RFP) - 3: “Child Health Nutrition Research: Research on Low Birth Weight (LBW)”
The RFP-3 was announced in 2003 by OCHRC (Initiative) with support of Global Forum for Health Research (GFHR). The objective of RFP-3 was to conduct population-based study to define the burden of low birth weight (LBW), i.e. prematurity and Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR), and assess risk factors and/or explore the relationship between prematurity, IUGR and neonatal morbidity and causes of death.
In 2004, OCHRC awarded institutions from Bangladesh and Gambia to conduct the studies. The study in Bangladesh was aimed to measuring the incidence, investigating the determinants and examining the effect of LBW, IUGR and prematurity on neonatal morbidity and survival in rural Bangladesh. On the other hand, the study in Gambia focused on defining the burden of LBW, assessing risk factors and examining the relationship between LBW and neonatal mortality in Gambia.
